All in all we have another winner and a must have book for Mike Shipley fans !! . He goes into great detail with pictures to show the carver how to cut out the blanks with the patterns and saws. This book is well worth the price for the many patterns as well as the excellent details and pictures.A very unique feature of this book is that each pattern shows you a completed, painted project which gives the specific paint color used so you can duplicate the exact look shown. Patterns include characters like Demler, Frank, the dog Beau, Skinny Lenny, Willie, Ezra, Bobby Ray, Arlo, Benny, Granny, Odie and an outhouse. This book is full of patterns that the woodcarver can use, 12 to be exact. Front, back and side views of each pattern are given. Shipley gives the carver ideas on tools to use and how to sharpen those tools. He discusses transfering patterns an
"Carving country" according to Velda Brotherton. The patterns are easy to use, and the variety make it easy to choose something easy or more difficult to work on. I have already carved the little short man in a hat and enjoyed every step. He looks pretty good for someone carving for fun and enjoyment.Fly with the Mourning Dove. Great Book Pappa I bought this book to help me to improve on my wood carving. I like the country characters that is in the book.. The Best but Impossible to Find Maraldene This book and it's companion Carving the Bear are my two favorite books. This book is out of print and the second edition is not due out until December. It was impossible to find and took three months to find a copy. Do not buy this book used from Amazon as their vendors list it but don't actually have it to sell. Both times I ordered it from two different vendors, it was shipped but "lost in the mail with no tracking numbers". Fraud. Just
